Commodore's Welcome - Jerry Selig

Welcome to Red Eye Yacht Club (R.E.Y.C) and thank you for your interest in our club. Once again I would like to thank the membership for their support over the past few years. I hope that you will continue your support for another year as I serve the Club as your Commodore. I had a great time at the REYC Ball and look forward to many more good times this coming year. In addition to our Ball (as of November 6th), I will have attended five (5) Sister Club Balls. Vice Commodore Bob and his mate Nikki attended Otter Points Ball due to having two (2) scheduled for the same night. There are at least three (3) more on the schedule that 1st Lady Liz and I will be attending before the end of the year. In the last (also my 1st) general membership meeting, I announced my committees for the upcoming year. For those unable to attend the meeting, I will name them again. Please join me in thanking them for their service to our Club. They are:

This week the finance committee began working on the budget proposal for next year. At the December membership meeting the budget will be discussed and brought before the membership for approval. Please plan to attend. That same evening we will be having a member pitch in Christmas gathering. No dinner will be served that night, so bring a covered dish and join in the festivities.

While I was late getting to the Club last Saturday due to attending a Ball in Northeast MD, things were still going pretty strong at the Red Eye Halloween Party. From the feedback I received, it was a howling good evening. I would like to thank our Chairperson Maureen Tinker and everyone associated with helping to make this event so successful. I would also like to thank everyone that came down to support the event. Well done.

Fall has arrived and we have just over a week before it is time to winterize the Clubhouse and Piers. This is always a very important task and one that is much easier done with the help and support of our membership. Please come down and support this effort on Saturday Nov. 13th.

Very soon boats will be winterized, some will be relocated, and some will be temporarily blocked up on land. This, however, does not mean that we (REYC Members) need to get put away for the winter as well. The Club still needs to make money to pay the bills. Between ice eaters and heat, Winter bills are among the highest we have all year. We can continue to help offset these expenses by supporting the bar and by sponsoring some of the Friday Frenzy events that PC Bill initiated last year. As soon as my schedule allows, I will put together a team and sponsor a Friday night steak and karaoke dinner. Last year we had wine tasting, Wii bowling, guitar group gatherings, and a few other events to help us weather the expense of Winter. Please feel free to get with our E.O.- Judy Zipkin to schedule an event during the off season. Thank you for your continued support. Don't forget to come out and support Fleet Captain Irene's frostbite land cruise in December. Nothin' like a few early cocktails to get the blood flowing on a cold Fall day.

Have a great Thanksgiving.
